I read a quote the other day that I found I really needed to revisit. To me it can explain why at times when you work on a piece of art, it really does not seem to say what you are trying to revel.
When I read this quote by Caspar David Friedrich, it made perfect sense. Sometimes when you feel distracted or off balance, the design seems to say nothing. It just goes flat. Waiting until you are ready to express what is really inside. Some people call that being blocked.
Anyway, there are times when I am not in the studio and I feel so much inspiration, I wish I could rush there, and then it passes. This usually occurs while in nature! Check out this polyplemus moth / butterfly I spotted the other day.
My thoughts are that when you give up control and listen to the next step to take and then the next step to take, it usually can surprise you. I like to call that “Magic”!
When the magic happens, that’s a very good day. It comes out better than you think it will and the finished piece says what you are trying to express the whole time. La Magie!
